When Christ the King School on Tidewater Drive turns 50 in two years, its leaders hope they can showcase a modern school in the making.

The Catholic school, which enrolls 375 children in preschool through eighth grade, is planning a $3.5 million renovation and expansion.

The work will add needed classrooms and amenities and take an estimated four to five years to complete, planners such as Principal Miriam Cotton say. The work also will allow Christ the King to attract and maintain students and compete with a new Catholic ...
