NEW YORK -- Brown Shoe Co. Inc. has tapped Joseph Wood -- former executive vice president and general manager for Finish Line -- as president of its Famous Footwear division to revitalize the 924-store chain after a year of slumping same-store sales and operating earnings.

Wood replaces Brian Cook, who retired after 22 years, as reported in Footwear News' Aug. 6, 2001 issue .

During his six-year tenure at Finish Line, Wood sharpened its marketing and merchandising and helped grow the Indianapolis-based firm from revenues of $192 million to $664 million.
