UBUD, Bali _ The woman's movements were slight, nearly imperceptible. She waved her right hand over burning incense; she held a delicate bamboo tray filled with fragrant frangipani flowers in her left.

She stood proudly, brightly dressed in the traditional ground-sweeping sarong and delicate lace top, performing the ceremonial gestures Balinese have done for generations. When she was finished, she quietly turned and walked down the street.
