There are now about ten blocks on offer for E&P. The Ministry of Oil and Gas expects to award E&P licences in the first half of 2002. In March 2001, Maersk Oil & Gas of Denmark got two blocks near the Saudi border. In Oct. Novus of Australia got Blocks 15 and 47 in northern Oman. In mid-Nov. Hunt Oil of the US, a major operator in Yemen, got the 22,245 sq km Block 50 off the east coast under a four-year agreement during which it will invest $18-26m.
