Remote terminal servers cost a few thousand dollars apiece and usually are used on Ethernet LANs to cluster terminals and talk with hosts. They can be an economical way to link an existing installed base to other hosts and networks. Terminal servers can act as switching devices, providing one terminal with multiple connections. Several case studies of the use of remote terminal servers are presented.
