Victorian-era homes may have exuded charm with their gingerbread cut-out detailing, cozy front porches and white picket fences, but they were sometimes dark inside, with small rooms that were overly furnished.

Modern-day Victorian-style homes usually combine exterior charm - which often translates to such interior delights as turrets, dormer windows and cathedral ceilings - along with a more open floor plan to satisfy contemporary tastes.
