THE OTHER NIGHT I WAS SURPRISED to hear Frank Sinatra singing "The House I Live In." I followed the sound to its source and caught the closing credits of Entertainment Tonight rolling over a video of Sinatra's 1986 performance for the celebration of the Statue of Liberty's 100th year. Watching Ol' Blue Eyes sing under a cascade of fireworks, I was transported back: not to a time when New York was strong and proud, but to a time when my grandfather was frail and confused.
