NO SOONER had the news leaked out that the beautiful building which once housed Sully Hospital near Cardiff had been earmarked as a home for asylum seekers than misgivings began to be voiced.

A councillor for the area, Anthony Ernest, complained that the news had exploded "like a bombshell" into his community and that the policy behind the decision had been "ill-thought out".
