Despite negative to flat month-to-month price changes at year's end, at-home food price inflation in 2001 was the highest in five years.

Overall at-home food prices in 2001, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, advanced 3.3%. That compares to overall at-home food price inflation of 2.3% in 2000, 1.9% both in 1999 and 1998, 2.5% in 1997 and 3.7% in 1996.
