SPANISH nurses have been recruited to help at Whiston Hospital during the winter crisis.
The 14 men and women are the first Spanish nurses to start work in Merseyside since an agreement was set up between their government and the NHS two years ago.
Extra wards, supplying approximately 40 new beds, were opened in January to cope with the winter rush.
Although their qualifications are recognised in Britain, they are undergoing retraining and orientation to help them fit into life on Merseyside.
