February is Black History Month, and WUSF 89.7 is celebrating by airing a special one-hour salute to African-English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.

This newest installment of "Classically Black" features interviews with musicians and scholars discussing Coleridge-Taylor's artistry. His best-known composition is the cantata "Hiawatha," based on Longfellow's poem. He later extended the piece as "Scenes from the Song of Hiawatha." At one time, this splendid oratorio was as popular among English audiences as Handel's "Messiah."
