HOUSTON _ Quincy Jones is talking, about Sharon Stone, about Count Basie, about Ella and Sarah and Aretha. He drops name after name, one lingering in the air until the next one, often more impressive than the last, takes its place.

He keeps this up for 90 minutes, taking a little time to chew his lunch and greet nervous admirers. He feeds off people. He needs to explain where he's been, what he's done, whom he's known.
