CARLSBAD -- Like the other military or police organizations that have seen it, the Army's 101st Airborne Division liked the NightHunter searchlight.
But division leaders thought a 10-pound object the size of two coffee cans placed end-to-end was too much for the individual soldier.
After all, these guys need to parachute into places and move around.
Could you make it smaller, they asked.
So the people of Carlsbad-based Xenonics, Inc. set to work and came up with a 4.4-pound model.
