SHAREHOLDERS in P&O Princess were told in November that their board had struck a deal to merge the business with Royal Caribbean to create what by most measures would be the world's largest cruise business and they would be asked to approve the deal at a shareholders' meeting in January.
Since then, America's Carnival, currently the world's largest cruise operator, has sought to undermine the deal and hinted that it might itself seek to buy P&O Princess at 450p a share subject to various conditions.
