We resume our series on the electrical system with a study of how the integrated circuit (IC) regulator controls the output voltage of the alternator. Don't let the following diagrams discourage you. If you understand how the north pole of a magnet attracts the south pole and repels another north pole, that's all you'll need in order to get started. After seeing how IC regulators operate, we'll look at five control circuits used on alternators.
