GOLDEN -- Miles of the Dakota Hogback, which looms above the western stretches of C-470, soon could become one of the state's newest official natural areas.
Jefferson County commissioners last week endorsed the designation, which now goes to the Colorado Board of Parks and Outdoor Recreation for approval before the designation becomes official.
The board could consider the proposal as early as January, said Karin Decker, an ecologist with the Natural Areas Program.
