Since the discovery of Kidd Creek in the 1960s by airborne geophysics, Ontario has been a centre for survey companies and instrument development. These companies are technology-driven with better than 65% of their staff possessing specialist degrees. Most of these specialists are educated at the province's 11 universities, and find research support through various industry and government programmes.
