Since its creation, the 8 cm disc format has been treated more as a curiosity than a viable product. Times and technologies have changed. Thanks to the explosive growth of compressed digital audio applications, digital still image photography, portable data storage, next generation game consoles and full motion digital video, 8 cm discs have the potential to extend the life of the whole aging CD format and even to put a new spin on DVD.
