Dark eyes stared at the cold, gray winter sea. The last words of a prayer hung in the frozen air. Apprentice seaman Joshua Barney placed a cap on his black hair. With steady hands, he reached for the wood on which the body rested. Slowly, he lifted the board and watched as the corpse of Captain Drysdale slipped into the choppy Atlantic.
