Wine production was up by 7.5% in '88

U.S. wine production (standard wine removed from fermenters) in 1988 registered a 7.6% increase over the previous year's vintage, primarily because California's grape crush was relatively high. Last year's 473.3-million-gallon U.S. vintage was 33.4 million gallons higher than the 439.9 million gallons produced in 1987. From 1984 to 1988, U.S. production averaged 459.0 million gallons per year.
