As Greg Nickels prepares to take the reins as Seattle's mayor, he turned yesterday to someone who knows what he's in for - former Mayor Norm Rice.

In tapping Rice to head his transition team, Nickels turns to his political mentor and one of his oldest friends as he prepares to make a series of decisions that could set the tone for his administration. Nickels ran Rice's first campaign for the City Council and was his top council aide for eight years.
