TONE HOUCK WILL NEVER FORGET THE HOT SUMMER DAY IN 1974 WHEN she was washing the grime off plastic pallets at the Coors Brewing Co. in Golden -- a tough job that paid $3.65 an hour.

A man watched silently as the 18-year-old Houck "did the wash for Coors."

"I yelled to him, 'If you're just going to stand there and watch, you might as well help."' Houck remembers the man smiling slightly. "That's how I met Bill Coors for the first time."
