Paul Signac is the French Neo-Impressionist artist who transmuted Georges Seurat's innovative little dot Pointillism into larger mosaic-like patches of color but never quite emerged from Seurat's shadow to be recognized as a master painter.

The Metropolitan Museum is attempting to upgrade Seurat's reputation with the first major retrospective of his work in 40 years, including 70 oil paintings and 50 watercolors, drawings and prints.
