Greg Nickels has won the tightest race for Seattle mayor since 1912.

The King County councilman said he accepted a congratulatory call from his opponent, City Attorney Mark Sidran, after a new count of 6,428 absentee ballots appeared to seal his victory.

"He congratulated me and offered to help me in any way that he could," said Nickels, celebrating with a boisterous crowd at Kell's Pub in Pike Place Market last night.
