Lazaro Cardenas Batel of the center-left Partido de la Revolucion Democratica (PRD) scored a convincing victory in the Michoacan gubernatorial election on Nov. 11, defeating Alfredo Anaya Gudino of the former-governing Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI).

Statistics released by the Instituto Electoral de Michoacan (IEM) show Cardenas Batel won the race with almost 42% of the vote, compared with 37% for Anaya and 19% for Salvador Lopez Orduna of the center-right Partido Accion Nacional (PAN).
