The white domestic goose tucked its swollen foot high under its body and slowly maneuvered across Camp Ernst Lake near Burlington.

On shore, Lori Hopkins, of Verona, generously and patiently tossed pellets of corn, attempting to coax the injured fowl to her side. The goose warily hobbled onto land, but seconds later, slipped back into the assurance of the water and out of Ms. Hopkins' grasp.
