Ethane Fails to Keep Pace with Natural Gas Declines.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

A SHARP REDUCTION IN NATURAL GAS prices is not being met by an equivalent decline in ethane prices, adding to the problems of ethylene producers, who are struggling with weak demand and falling downstream product prices, industry sources say. Declining ethane inventories and increased demand have lifted ethane prices by about 3.5 cts/gal over the last three weeks to about 26 cts/gal fob. Natural gas has fallen over the same period, to about $2.30/million Btu, the lowest in 19 months (chart).
