The regulations governing the proposed new Coal and Steel Research Fund, which is to replace the terminating European Coal and Steel Community next year (MJ, July 27, p.60), should allow for its budget to be reviewed when the EU admits new country members from eastern Europe, the European Parliament's budgetary committee has suggested. Committee members said that the fund would need to take account of the fact that these countries may have significant coal and steel industries.
