Let's be frank: I've always been intrigued with Chalone. I recall buying really neat Colombard from Napa County under the Gavilan Vineyards brand. The Colombard was made like a Chardonnay, as I recall, even though it didn't taste like one--of course not.

I also recall buying a not-so-neat half-case of Pinot noir that was stemmy as hell, because the grapes weren't de-stemmed prior to fermentation. Green stems such as those did not make for a pleasant ...
