Israeli troops, backed by tanks, advanced into the Palestinian-controlled towns of Bethlehem and Beit Jala ahead of Friday's funerals for three Fatah party members who were killed in a car explosion.
Thousands of Palestinians attended the funerals of Atef Abayat and two relatives who were killed when the car they were in exploded on Thursday near Bethlehem.
