Music is life and like it inextinguishable; The music of Carl Nielsen is the main focus of the Discover Denmark festival which is launched at Symphony Hall tonight. Terry Grimley, a long-time enthusiast, reflects on the qualities that inspire a special affection for his music.

Once upon a time, a little boy grew up on an island noted for the beauty of its countryside and the poverty of its people.

As the seventh of 12 children, this boy was poorer than most. From a very early age he was forced to work - looking after geese, helping a grocer, trimming bricks.
