WASHINGTON, DC -- Recognizing that the 4.5 million existing buildings in the US can achieve a 20 to 30% reduction in energy use, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Department of Energy (DOE) and the US Green Building Council (USGBC) have announced a partnership between Energy Star [R] and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED [TM]) to help ease the nation's energy crunch by developing a new LEED rating system for existing buildings.
