TOKYO, Oct 1 Asia Pulse - The Japanese government will push animal feed makers and sellers to temporarily suspend domestic production and import of meat-and-bone meal from Thursday, in a bid to end the use of what is suspected to be the source of mad cow disease, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tsutomu Takebe announced Monday.
The move comes in response to growing concern among Japanese consumers over the safety of domestic beef since the first case of the disease was confirmed in the country on Sept. 21.
