WORLDCOM BIDS $40 MILLION FOR BANKRUPT RHYTHMS' ASSETS.(Business)

WorldCom has bid $40 million for most assets of bankrupt Rhythms NetConnections, the Arapahoe County-based high-speed Internet access provider.

The bid, which will be considered by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York today, was noted in a seven-page Federal Communications Commission order Monday that gives Rhythms permission to shut down its operations.

Frank Paganelli of Rhythms' legal department said Monday afternoon that WorldCom is interested in acquiring assets in 31 markets.
