CAULERPA PROLIFERA (CHLOROPHYTA: CAULERPACEAE) FROM THE LAGUNA MADRE OF SOUTH TEXAS.

On 21 November 1998, large numbers of specimens of the macrophytic green algal species Caulerpa prolifera (Forsskal) Lamouroux were observed along the west coast of the southern tip of South Padre Island. A strong northwest wind had served to deposit these specimens among the drift just above the high water line approximately 500 m south of the U.S. Coast Guard Station. Because no specimens were observed growing naturally in place, additional trips were made to the area to verify the presence of this species at South Padre Island.
