On 21 November 1998, large numbers of specimens of the macrophytic green algal species Caulerpa prolifera (Forsskal) Lamouroux were observed along the west coast of the southern tip of South Padre Island. A strong northwest wind had served to deposit these specimens among the drift just above the high water line approximately 500 m south of the U.S. Coast Guard Station.
