The legend of the Culver's ButterBurger began - where else? - over a couple of beers at a Wisconsin supper club in 1983.
Craig Culver listened to a friend reminisce about a favorite Milwaukee drive-in that made a "butter burger."
Culver vowed that if he ever ran a restaurant, he would serve butter burgers. The opportunity came the next year when his family sold the Culver's Ritz supper club in Baraboo, Wis., and reclaimed a former A&W root beer stand they had owned in Sauk City, Wis.
