FILIPINOS who have been to Acapulco, Mexico, wonder why tuba is sold there. Though the accent is on the first syllable, too-bah, it is the very same drink Filipino seafarers taught Mexicans how to make and enjoy, many centuries ago. During the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade, many sailors, fearful of the long return voyage, jumped ship and settled in Mexico. Tuba has become a popular aguardiente, (fire water) along the coast of Mexico's state of Guerrero.
