SAINT-TROPEZ, France - The painter Paul Signac fell in love with the light of Saint-Tropez. The tiny, bucolic peninsula is atmospherically unusual because it faces north toward the Mediterranean, rendering the light soft and misty in the morning as the sun sneaks lazily over the hills before giving way to a crystal intensity in the afternoons and sinking into waves of amber and green in the evenings. It is a post-impressionist paradise. But you do not need a painter's eye to recognize the stunning beauty and infinite charms of this coastal town.
