When Basil Bunting first collected his poems in 1968 for the Fulcrum Press, he wryly eulogized, "A man who collects his poems screws together the boards of his coffin." In spite of Bunting's misgivings about putting together that compilation (subsequently added to, albeit sparingly, two times afterwards), I'm glad for it. It may have spelled a kind of retrospectively fueled doom in Bunting's cranky imagination; for me, it's the place where I first found his poems.
