ABOARD USS WASP OFF THE NORTH CAROLINA COAST--After almost three years of persistent maintenance hassles and two missed deployment cycles in 2000 and 2001, Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers will deploy in September and return fixed-wing short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) capability to Marine Air-Ground Task Force operations, service pilots said.
"The AV-8Bs are finally out of the period where they were down," Lt. Col. Richard Pomarico, commanding officer of the VMA-223 Bulldogs, told Defense Daily here on Wednesday.
