I would like to suggest a few answers for Michael Toombs (Letters, July 10) and your June 30 editorial (''The wrong health care bill'') as to why we should not have universal medical care.

My wife and I are being kept alive by drugs which were not available even 10 years ago. These drugs were not developed out of the goodness of someone's heart or just for laughs, but because of the profit motive which Mr. Toombs decries. The medicines and procedures are what makes American medical care the best in the world.
