South Vietnamese coup leader Duong Van `Big' Minh dies.(The Orange County Register)

SANTA ANA, Calif. _ Gen. Duong Van "Big" Minh, who led a 1963 coup that set the scene for American military intervention in South Vietnam and returned to prominence to hand over power to the communists in 1975, has died at age 86.
Minh died Monday, a day after falling in his Pasadena home following months of declining health. He left a disputed legacy.
"He was a good military man, but not a politician," said Nhut Van Tran of Tustin, a former brigadier general and a collaborator in the 1963 coup that ousted President Ngo Dinh Diem.
