It's a dream come true for bargain hunters.

Dollar stores are popping up around the suburbs and all over the nation.

There were 8,578 dollar stores nationwide in 2000, that's more than twice the number seven years earlier.

Dollar stores connected to the three biggest chains including Family Dollar, Dollar General and Dollar Tree, now outnumber outlets for the nation's three giant discounters Wal-Mart, Target and Kmart. And that's not counting various regional chains such as Carol Stream-based Waldo's Dollar Mart. ...
