Since the successes of World War II, the primary feature of the US military has been its ability to mass overwhelming firepower into an area with an amazing amount of accuracy. This has, for the most part, been accomplished by different fire support systems, from FA systems to attack aviation to close air support (GAS) and strategic bombing, sometimes using "smart" bombs. However, because these systems can cause such destruction, their use in combat has been controversial.
