Isolated from collectors, near the center of Wyoming is the Copper Mountain pegmatite district. First mapped by McLaughlin in 1936-38, these pegmatites experienced a surge of mining activity circa 1980-90. Mining in recent years was focused on recovering the highly valued tantalite, with minor recovery of beryl.
