I. Introduction
In organizational research the correct classification of the sample entities is crucial. Improper classifications will lead to erroneous conclusions about the population under study.
In order to learn more about the large bank classification schemes currently in use, three leading investment banking firms were contacted: Salomon Brothers, Inc.; Morgan Stanley and Co., Inc.; and Merrill Lynch Capital Markets, a subsidiary of Merrill Lynch, Inc.
