Sulzer Orthopedics in trouble over defective hip implant.

Sulzer Orthopedics Inc based in Austin, Texas, USA admits that it "can no longer maintain its formerly expressed opinion that it is sufficiently insured" to cover all the costs that will be associated with the recall of its allegedly defective Inter-Op hip implant.

The company is a subsidiary of Sulzer Medica in Winterthur, Switzerland. The recall was initiated on 5 December 2000. (See Biomedical Materials, April 2001, p. 9.)
