FINER SHIRTINGS IN DEMAND

NEW YORK -- The trend to finer combed cotton fabrics for better sports and dress shirts is gaining strength as consumers respond to the Dress Code for the '90s.

For spring 1990, apparel manufacturers are ordering silky fabrics with a more luxurious feel and appearance.

Textile sources see this as part of a larger picture involving a general trading up in fabrics of all types for the '90s, together with a desire for lighter goods in a soft and supple character.
