Last November Pope John Paul signed a papal bull ("bulla" is Latin for "seal") formally proclaiming the Jubilee Year 2000 as a Holy Year. It will begin on Christmas Eve, 1999, and end on the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6, 2001.
The bull also names Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and Rome as special centres for the Holy Year and recommends pilgrimages to these places so important to Catholics.
