Birmingham Royal Ballet star Michael Shannon believes there is a little bit of the Billy Elliot story behind every successful male dancer.
However, compared to Michael, Billy lacked ambition by only setting his sights as far as London, no matter how distant a dream it may have seemed.
As a dance-mad teenager, Michael, now 31, would settle for nothing less than most famous ballet company in the world - the Bolshoi.
